The Elevator Chair is in a contest sponsored by FLL Global Innovations. If we win, we could win up to $20,000 to assist in filing the formal patent, selling the idea to an investor, and/or getting a prototype to market! Please help us win by voting!
Go to the site, complete the captcha question, then click "Vote"! It's as easy as that.
Voting is unlimited, vote as often as you want between now and March 1.
Thanks for helping our students go the distance!
The 7&8 grade team is still quite devoted to this.
The Provisional Patent has been formally accepted, hooray!
We have submitted their invention to the FLL Global Innovations competition. The top 3 teams receive a cash award to help them further develop their project. The top 10 teams (determined by a public voting/panelist judging process) will also receive patent help. Voting begins on Monday, so check back then to vote for the Kung Pao Chickens' (Team #995) project, The Elevator Chair!
Regardless of our winning the competition, the team wants to pursue this patent. If anyone knows of any patent lawyers who could assist us with this process, we would be very grateful.
The team has decided that any profits made from the patent will directly benefit our school, Immanuel Lutheran School, for furthering the science and technology program at the school.
Here's the final project presented at the Colorado State Competition. This presentation won us the 2nd place Research Award.
Congratulations to both of our Lego Robotics teams for making it to the Colorado State Championships! Special recognition goes to our 7&8 grade team, the Kung Pao Chickens, for receiving the 2nd place Research Award for their patent-pending Elevator Chair!
Our 7/8 Grade team, the Kung Pao Chickens, have received such overwhelmingly positive feedback about their FLL Project Invention, "The Elevator Chair", that they have decided to apply for a patent! The first step is the Provisional Patent, which has now officially been filed. This gives them ownership of their invention for a year, allowing them the time they need to raise funds to submit the formal, permanent patent.
If anyone would like to help out the team with some pro-bono (or at cost) patent lawyering, we would appreciate it.
Today both of our Lego Robotics teams competed at the State Qualifier tournament in Fort Collins. Congratulations to both of our Lego Teams for an awesome day! The Kung Pao Chickens (7/8) placed 4th in both Robot Performance and the Champion's Award, out of 33 teams. The Fire Breathing Gummy Bears (5/6) placed 3rd in the Champion's Award, and 2nd in Robot Performance! 4 new trophies for our trophy cabinet! Both teams have qualified to move on to the state competition in January. Wahoo! (Can you tell it was a good day?)
